Sunday greeted us with a lovely F3-4 Westerly breeze, unfortunately by the time we launched it had somewhat diminished to a meagre F2-3 moving North Westerly. Simon Jones as race officer laid on a trapezoidal course hoping to catch the eager racers out with the extra mark.
First race of the day which was July Series Race 7 started bang on time at 11am, with Mick Greenland sailing his new immaculate wooden Solo for the first time. The Scorpion of Russ and Lee made the best start with the rest of the fleet close behind. It was clear the light winds was not suiting the Catarmaran boats, after having good winds in previous races. With the youth pairings of George & Connor and Frankie & Pip in the RS Feva's both going well, it was great to see a wide age range all racing harmoniously together. Eventually the Scorpion won with Mick's new boat in 2nd place and the Dart 18 of Chris & Paul's having to accept a lowly 3rd place (not their norm).
The second race (July Race Series 8) of the morning started in a somewhat dying breeze, now F2 at the best, some of the fleet were so keen to get going, they forgot they needed to wait for the start gun before crossing the start line. Individual recall for three cats ensured the patient ones got the best start. Again the Scorpion showed its pace and Mick was close behind. Jeff in the Solo doing well too in the light winds and Alex and Imogen sailing the Miracle well for the first time. At the end the wind dropped off, results ended up with 1st Scorp (Lee & Russ). 2nd Solo (Mick), 3rd Solo (Jeff).
With the water like a millpond over lunch and no sign of improvement, Race 9 scheduled for the afternoon was abandoned.
